Nathan Michael Bedford

The wee fella in the picture is our new nephew, Nathan Michael Bedford, with his proud parents. We spent most of the week down in Beverley so we could say hello.

We also found some time to visit the York Maze where we had great fun running around the maze and playing in the park.

And of course, Vikki and I managed a couple of runs, on the Beaver Trail and the Hudson Way respectively.

Biding in the East Riding

Thanks to those of you who took part in the latest round of Where's Magnus?. He was indeed at the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, where you can experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the ancient Viking city of Jorvik.
It was really good - both Lachlan and Calum also enjoyed the visit; Lachlan did a school project about Vikings last year so it was particularly interesting for him.
Our trip to York, which also took in a look at the Minster and the Shambles, was part of a visit to see Amy and the Daviator in their new house in Beverley. It's was great to see them, and chill a bit, and drink beer and wine, and generally just have a nice time. We also spent too much time playing Wii Fit, had a failed attempt at Geocaching (more about that another time perhaps), and took a trip to Hull, where we went to the Art Gallery and a rather good museum that had, among other things, a fine collection of Roman mosaics and a 4000 year old boat. We finished off our trip with a visit to the cinema to see Bolt which was funny and exciting and made everyone except me cry (and I was close at one point).

Congratulations II

In case you couldn't work it out from the grainy, ill-lit phone pic posted previously, Amy got married to the Daviator on Sunday at Pittodrie House Hotel.

It was the first time we'd taken the boys to a wedding and it turned out to be kinda crazy, stressful, and a lot of fun. Lachlan and Calum were page boys and Vikki was the chief bridesmaid, which meant she got a posh frock and a seat away from us at dinner (but still saved the day by calming Magnus down). After dinner, Magnus soon fell asleep and we were able to get on with the serious business of drinking and dancing. The dancing kicked off with a grand march followed by "Patio Song" by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci (we had to bring our CD in because the DJ strangely hadn't even heard of them), and finished off about midnight with the seemingly obligatory drunken staggering to The Proclaimers' "500 miles". All in all, it was a good night - Lachlan and Calum had a great time running and sliding around the dance floor, we had a chance to make some new friends catch up with some old friends and family, and it was fun just to watch Vikki's relatives get steadily drunker as time wore on.

I'm afraid that I was very very drunk at the time

It feels strange not to have been out for a long run over the weekend. For the first time in a couple of months, I haven't had a training plan to follow and no great incentive to leave a nice warm bed. Also, I woke on Saturday morning with a very slight hangover, and would probably have felt the same on the Sunday except that I slept longer. The reason for all this revelry? My dear sister-in-law Amy has recently got engaged to The Daviator and they came up to show off the ring celebrate the happy event with us. This meant dinner at Vikki's folks on Friday night (fish and chips from The Bay), and Sunday night, and a nice meal at The Carron on Saturday night, along with suitable amounts of alcohol (I'm told that I drank three very large measures of brandy on Friday although I can only remember the glass being topped up once). It was all good fun, although Dave was a bit disappointed about the rugby, and the Grand Prix. The girls are busy sorting out venues, dresses, and all that sort of thing. I'm going to keep a low profile for a while.
